The Planet Nation guide for LBQ women at Pride in London
If you’re looking at the official Pride in London website for events, you’d be forgiven for thinking us lesbians had gone extinct… not looked and wondering what I’m talking about?
Well for starters, you can filter by age, location, cost, event type – but not gender so the women’s events are lost amongst the other 200+ events… there may be a reason for that – as I’ve had several lesbian promoters tell me there events aren’t listed and Pride are ignoring them. In fact, none of the women’s events below are listed… even the official women’s party isn’t listed…
Anyway, so the good news is that thankfully the LBQ community is by now used to just getting on with things, so despite the lack of support, there are loads of events available for you! Here is our run down:
Helping you find the best night for you
In a super-rare occurance, Unicorn Nights and LesFlicks have come together to bring 300 women an epic event to see But I’m a Cheerleader on the big screen at The Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square! LesFlicks are doing a pre-film social dinner nearby so if you’re interested please sign up.
Friday is easy – you have one choice, so if you want to party the night before, see you at All the Single Ladies!
Saturday there is sooo much choice!
If you like to get value for money, collaborations and lots of women then the Supersized Sapphic Pride Party is for you. It starts off with an exclusive pre-release women only screening of JT LeRoy (Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, Courtney Love) in the LesFlicks rooftop cinema at 8pm. Then party with 1,000 women until 5am with 14 DJs and fire. The best bit, it is at FEST in Camden so no chance of feeling like a minority in a sea of gay men! £16 | 8pm-5am
If you want cheap drinks and sexy entertainment close to all the action, then get down to LezEvents in Soho at Simmonds Bar. Be warned as this is in Soho you need to allow extra time to wade through the sea of people to get to it! £15 | 7pm-4am
If you want to support a lesbian bar, head onto Old Compton Street to SHE Soho – they have 7 DJs throughout the night and this is the lesbian bar in the heart of Soho so be prepared to get up close and personal to a lot of people to get into this bar. They have a capacity of 80 so arrive early or queue to get in. £5 | 12pm-5am
For something East head to Aphrodyki at The Miranda Hotel. A bit out of the way from all the Pride activities, but for anyone living or staying East you’ll find it easier to get home afterwards. £13 | 10pm-5am
If you like crazy, wild parties where anything goes then head to normally-male dominated Vauxhall where Lick Events take over the famous FIRE nightclub. £15-20 | 10pm-5am
If you like mixed events as you’re in London with your gay man mates, or your boyfriend (yes bisexuals exist too!) and want something big and colourful then there is no better space than Urban World Pride at Scala. Several brands under one roof. £15 | 9pm-6am
UK Black Pride is a mixed event, and despite the name is welcoming of all. It is what we wish the main Saturday Pride could be. Community at its heart. Highly recommended. FREE | 12pm-9pm
If you are wanting or needing a bit of culture after the partying, you’re in for a delight as Margo MacDonald has flown over from Canada and is doing a performance in Elephant & Castle for one day only! Don’t miss it. £5.92 | 5.30pm-8.30pm
All these events are on the Planet Nation events calendar, and also linked on the right.
