IKEA RELEASES A RAINBOW BAG RAISING MONEY FOR LGBT CHARITY… BUT THERE IS A CATCH…
Stop where you are! IKEA have released limited edition rainbow bags in store.
They didn’t really make a big announcement of it – they’ve been available since 17 May, but have only been picked up by mainstream media following the US release for Pride month and the focus on supporting LGBT charities in the US.
The bags will be sold in the UK for £1.50 (the blue bags are normally 50p), and are available online and in store now.
Unlike in the US, where 100% of the proceeds are being donated to the Human Rights Foundation, according to IKEA UK, “the sale of these bags will help us contribute and participate in local Pride events and other LGBT+ initiatives.”
There is no mention on the IKEA UK website as to which local prides they are supporting or attending but we will be eagerly awaiting the news of how this money is being used.
IKEA UK is a member of Stonewall and released the bags on 17 May 2019 for IDAHOTB.
They’ve already sold out in Greenwich (not surprising given the massive LGBT population around the South East and East London areas), but you can still pick them up at other outlets across the UK.
They are only available in store, and you can check availability here: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/tools-fittings/tool-sets-accessories/kvanting-carrier-bag-large-multicolour-art-00450804/
