Join us for an evening with gal-dem x Levi’s x Queer Britain, to celebrate the launch of Queer Britain’s first exhibition and a screening of our Chosen Family documentary series.

Levi’s have partnered with Queer Britain and together they aim to establish the UK’s first LGBTQI+ museum. The first step in this goal is a photography exhibition titled Chosen Family, showcasing the work of 4 photographers and celebrating the uniqueness and diversity of the LGBTQI+ experience through a collection of stories. gal-dem have partnered with them on their mission by creating a docu-series focused on Queer History,

From delving into black lesbian archives from the ‘80s, exploring queer safe spaces in Bristol and meeting the influential figures behind these projects, Travis Alabanza, Joy Miessi, Chloe Filani and Aisha Mirza have been on a journey of queer history around the U.K exploring the concept of chosen families.

Taking place in the Queer Britain pop-up exhibition space on Thursday 27th June, the screening of all four documentaries in this important series will be followed by a panel discussion with the films stars and creators.

Hosted by producer Joanna Boateng, we’ll discuss the importance of the topics explored in the project and the journey of creating it with Travis, Joy, Chloe and Aisha, and the films Director, Shivani Hassard.

The voices of queer people of colour have too often been erased from the history books, which is why producing this series has been an essential exercise in the importance of our communities archiving our work, and we’re really looking forward to sharing it with you.

Following this screening our documentary series will be given to Queer Britain to form part of their permanent archives.

Drinks on the evening will be kindly provided by Hop House and Fentimans.
